Question by Anthony: WELDING TIPS! HELP HELP?
I have never welded before, maybe a spot here and there with my dad. I need to build a small truss about eight feet long to support a 52 inch tv, and and possibly another 37 inch side by side. It has to hang off the ceiling and possibly be made with the fewest amount of materials. I can install it no problem, its fabricating the truss that I would definitly not know where to start. I need someone to explain a simple way to weld (a simple routine you might already know), how much weight can these welds support, and where would I get black metal pipes possibly aluminum. I have a welder downstairs it appears to be a TIG.
PS dont ask me to ask my dad or anything like that , thats why I came here to Yahoo answers.

I would say practice on something less expensive that a 52″ widescreen TV stand !
I think you are over your head here. If you are not sure of the type of welder you have then a 52″ tv is a VERY expensive way to learn. Is there a reason you don’t want to use one of the commercially available mounts? They do come large enough for a 52″ and the cost is low compared to replacing your TV.
As an option, you may be able to find a local welder that will help you build this and help you learn/touch-up your skills at the same time.
Enroll in a welding class for awhile and you will see that you can not learn to weld by some one on here telling you how to do it you need hands on. to learn this trade. There is a lot of responsibilty that goes with installing welds. There is also a theory class that goes with this.
I would go with all-thread thru the pipes into uni-strut beams for such an expensive TV! if you don’t even know what kind of welder it is you are asking for a 52″ foot smasher
Building a truss sounds like too much work.Use a piece of pipe instead 2′ or 3′ inside diameter weld some brackets to the pipe for attaching the mounts you’ll need.Welds are very strong but you will need to weld the brackets to the pipe on both sides of the brackets so you can not bend the welds If you can bend the welds they will break.
