A welding bench serves as a more suitable work space to perform most welding jobs, and is typically a waist-level table topped with steel that can be constructed yourself. These benches are often custom built to suit a particular workspace, such as your home’s basement or garage, ideally in an area with adequate ventilation; they may also be fitted with metal shielding around the back and sides to protect nearby walls. Although some are made entirely of steel, welding benches can have wooden frames that will both cost and weigh less.
Some welding benches feature other surfaces such as brick or cast iron, and additional items may include a welder’s clamp to hold your work in place. A versatile welding bench also assists as a vessel for squaring, measuring, gauging, and bending brakes and jigs. Other accessories may include a tray underneath for catching the debris that falls when welding, leaving your floor easier to clean. For more versatility, an anvil is often added to one end of the bench. These benches can also be enhanced with an exhaust fan to remove smoke from the area while working.
Whatever the type of work being done, a suitable welding bench will ensure that your project runs smoothly and efficiently.
